Uno dei gruppi più originali e forse sottovalutati dell’Ecm Records, sono stati gli Azimuth del pianista John Taylor, della cantante sua moglie Norma Winstone e del noto trombettista Kenny Wheeler: diedero vita ad un trio perfettamente concentrato sulle sonorità emergenti di quegli anni: il fenomeno imperante della fusione tra i generi, che aveva assalito il jazz sino dai sessanta, era ancora in evoluzione
