Portuguese, Rotterdam-based alto sax player Hugo Costa favors the format of the trio, so when he heard that legendary American double bass player-composer-bandleader William Parker plans to visit Rotterdam, he invited the great master for a studio session with his close comrade, German drummer Philipp Ernsting, who also lives in Rotterdam and who plays with Costa in the Albatre power trio (with prolific, Rotterdam-based Portuguese bassist Gonçalo Almeida) and the Anticlan trio (with Mexican guitarist Josué Amador), and with whom Costa recorded the duo album The Art of Crashing (A New Wave of Jazz, 2022).
