British, Belfast-based drummer-percussionist-composer Stephen Davis plays in Anthony Braxton’s The New Standard quartet. He has worked with Evan Parker, Alexander Hawkins (who also plays in Braxton’s New Standard quartet, and employs Davis as the drummer of his bands), John Taylor, Paul Dunmall, and Van Morrison. He is an assistant lecturer at Queen’s University Belfast.

The Gleaming World is Stephen Davis Unit’s debut album. The title was inspired by a line from the Irish poet Seamus Heaney. This free jazz quintet features pianist Hawkins, Polish-German alto sax player Angelika Niescier, British tenor sax player Tom Challenger, and American double bass player Nick Dunston. Davis composed eight pieces for the album, which was recorded at Grouse
