Acqua Pesante – Shaping the Time

The Italian-Portuguese free improvising trio Acqua Pesante (Heavy Water)—Italian no-input trombonist Carlo Mascolo, drummer Giacomo Mongelli, and Portuguese double bass player Hernâni Faustino—was casually formed in between gigs at the Italian Free Flow Fest for improvised music around the province of Bari in January 2024. The trio recorded its debut album immediately at Waveahead Studio in Monopoli, Italy, entitled Shaping the Time.

Mascolo suggested the sonic aesthetics for the trio – B.I.C. (Blind Instant Composition) which explores different timbral and compositional possibilities in real-time.
