American, West Coast tenor sax player-composer-educator Phillip Greenlief and trumpeter-composer-educator-Epigraph label owner Kris Tiner have explored the post-jazz continuum and connections between improvisational music traditions and systemic practices, blending jazz roots with multiple streams of contemporary music. Greenlief has collaborated with such innovative improvisers as Wadada Leo Smith, Meredith Monk, Fred Frith, Joëlle Léandre, and Frank Gratkowski. Tiner has performed with Wadada Leo Smith, Vinny Golia, Nels Cline, Gianni Gebbia, Nate Wooley, and Taylor Ho Bynum.
