Portuguese, Lisbon-based Ricardo Jacinto is an experimental cellist, conceptual composer, sound artist and designer, and architect who thinks of solo free improvisation as an exploration of the relation between sound and space. He is known for his work with the free jazz trio The Selva, the experimental Medusa Unit ensemble, and the free improvising Lisbon Freedom Unit.
SOLO distills Jacinto’s sonic research through seven pieces for cello, electronics, feedback, and resonant gong. It was composed with the Exploded Cello System designed at the Sonic Arts Research Center in Belfast, specifically to create a temporary interdependent relation between the cello and resonant objects or structures
