The Intrepid Trio is a project of Milanese soprano and tenor saxophonist Biagio Coppa. Coppa’s roots are in the creative improvised music that evolved out of more mainstream jazz during and after the 1960s; his aim with this and other projects is to develop a fusion of jazz-based improvisation with elements drawn from the music of the European classical avant-gardes of the postwar era. In this regard he can be seen as carrying forward some of the work pioneered in the 1960s and 1970s by artists such as Ornette Coleman, Anthony Braxton, Circle, and others of that generation.
