Viennese double bass-composer-educator Peter Herbert and pianist-electronics player-composer Wolfgang Mitterer are old friends but an odd musical couple. Herbert is a much-in-demand bass player, mostly for jazz outfits (but he also played with Paul Simon), who prefers to play in a duo rather than alone. He composed the opera Trans Maghreb for the 2014 edition of the Austrian Bregenzer Festspiele, and had a duo with Lebanese oud player Marcel Khalife. Mitterer’s work oscillates between composition and open form. He composed music for an organ and orchestra, a piano concerto and an opera. He has produced electronic pieces,
