The Berlin-based trio Jane in Ether – recorder player Miako Klein, hyper-pianist Magda Mayas and violinist-vocalist Biliana Voutchkova, was founded in 2019, and focuses on slowly developing, long form compositions created in real-time and exploring the dynamic and tonal possibilities of the respective instruments, extended by unconventional techniques. The trio investigates the resonant timbres of the recorder, piano, and violin while sketching poetic, dream-like and almost transparent compositions. These compositions often hover on the edge of audibility only to spontaneously shift direction and suggest a dynamic space for dense noisy clusters or the sonic suspension of minimal tonal soundscapes.
